Wind power plants in the United States
Wind units in the 2025 EIA-860 data total 159.7 GW of nameplate capacity, 11.6% of the US fleet. It is the main source at 1,356 plants; Texas has the most, with 43.9 GW. More of today’s wind capacity came online in 2020 than in any other year (14.9 GW). The oldest unit still working went into service in 1981 at Victory Garden (Tehachapi), California.
