About GridPlants

GridPlants is an independent reference on US power plants, written and maintained by Megan Sullivan.

It turns the federal plant survey, Form EIA-860, into pages that answer the questions people ask about a power plant: what it runs on, how large it is, when each generator came online, which units have retired or are scheduled to, who operates and owns it, and how it compares with the plants around it. The site holds 14,286 plants in its finder, 253 plant pages, and pages for every state, fuel, major balancing area and large operator.

All figures are computed from the 2025 final release of EIA-860 by U.S. Energy Information Administration. GridPlants is not affiliated with EIA, any utility or any plant operator, and it does not sell electricity, give advice or take payment for listings. Corrections are welcome at support@gridplants.online.
